On Jan. 30 the Village of Burns Lake hosted a tax information event for residents to get an idea on where they think their municipal tax dollars should be spent. Sashka Macievich, the Village of Burns Lake’s finance director, stated that they created a live demonstration to provide people with a realistic understanding of how their tax money should be spent. To make the event more engaging, attendees were given $1500 in fake money, and asked to distribute it among the services they deemed most important. Attendees had a chance to enter to win free utilities for a year, up to a maximum of $772. Kai Epkens won the utilities for a year and Charles Cuerrier won the Lakeside Multiplex membership.
